September 2007 The Steering Committee met for the first time at the Austin History Center. An announcement was made of the first Life Time Membership: Dr. Rosemary Morrow. October 2007 The Board Meeting met for the second year at the Center for American History, The University of Texas at Austin (UT). An announcement was made of our organization's ability to provide Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credit, through the Texas Education Agency. November 2007 The Fall Membership Meeting was held at the UT Natural Science Center, in collaboration with the Texas Solar Energy Society, Austin Energy, and the Austin Independent School District (AISD). AISD provided the Renewable Energy Resource materials. January 2008 The ACCESS Traveling Exhibits Program was funded through a grant from Humanities Texas, the state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities. A workshop was held at the AISD Ann Richards Leadership Academy for Girls, Middle School. Dr. Paul Bolin, Professor of Visual Art Studies at UT provided professional development for teachers and librarians hosting the two exhibits, "Africa in the Americas" and "Life on the Nile." This year, approximately 6,045 students/teachers were served through this program. February 2008 ACCESS met with members of the Texas Art Education Association (TAEA) at UT's Blanton Museum of Art to begin planning the TAEA Mini-Conference and ACCESS Summer Institute in June. March 2008 Humanities Texas invited ACCESS to a Grants Workshop. May 2008 ACCESS and the Neill-Cochran House Museum (NCHM) collaboratively began a grant proposal to create on-line teacher resources, using the hard copy of the NCHM curriculum materials that are currently in all AISD elementary school libraries. June 2008 ACCESS received a membership from The City of Austin, Parks and Recreation Department Cultural Affairs who are affiliated with the Elisabet Ney Museum, the George Washington Carver Museum and Cultural Center, the Mexican American Cultural Center, and the O. Henry Museum. ACCESS member Mexic-Arte Museum provided an AISD bus to the museum and a tour for the TAEA/ACCESS Mini-Conference and Summer Institute participants. Approximately 70 Central Texas TAEA members and ACCESS members (art teachers, librarians, museum educators, etc.) attended the day and one-half event. |
