ACCESS to Learning, Inc. 2005-2006


October

The General Membership Meeting was held at the UT (The University of Texas at Austin) PAC (Performing Arts Center) for a production of Ben Franklin: Unplugged. Members were invited to a “members only” reception with the actor portraying Ben Franklin.

November

Deborah McLouth, AISD (Austin Independent School District) arranged for a TAEA (Texas Art Education Association) Meeting Tour of the UT Harry Ransom Humanities Research Center’s Ansel Adams Exhibition, Ansel Adams, A Legacy.

January

Tina Melcher (Region 13 Educational Center) and Kyle Schlafer (Capitol Visitor’s Center) organized a Museum Roundtable at Region 13 Educational Center, for educators.

February – March

ACCESS to Learning, Inc. supported the efforts of The University of Texas at Austin and The City of Austin’s African American Film Festival and Exhibition.

April

ACCESS to Learning, Inc. met at the Ladybird Johnson National Wildflower Research Center to announce the first official board: Lynn Bell, UT Center for American History, Don Cook, UT Cancer Research Center, Guadalupe Gomez, AISD, Amjad Khan, UT Office of Public Affairs, Dr. Rosemary Morrow, TEA (Texas Education Agency), and Dr. Donna Vliet, Founder of ACCESS to Learning, Inc.

May – June

Sharon Ciccarelli (AISD) and Catherine McNeill (Arthouse) organized the summer institute entitled, Austin: Weird, Wild and Wired. The George Washington Carver Museum and Cultural Center hosted the summer institute and AISD provided the buses. Alan Towler (AISD) presented photography information, which was used throughout the institute. Attendees learned about Dr. Molly Orgozy’s Plantmobile, and visited UT’s Architectural Materials Lab, Westcave Preserve, and The Austin City Hall.
