August

Donna Vliet, Director, attended an invitation only IMLS (Institute of Library and Museum Services) Meeting, Charting the Landscape/Mapping New Paths” Museums, Libraries & K-12, in Washington D.C.

October

Lucile Harmon (Neill-Cochran House Museum) and Lucy May (AISD: Austin Independent School District), presented The Story of the Neill-Cochran House Museum Curriculum Guide, supported by ACCCES to Learning, Inc. at the annual meeting of TCSS (Texas Council for the Social Studies) in Dallas. 74 copies of the curriculum were given to AISD.

October

The Power of Objects membership meeting was held at the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum. Dr. Paul Bolin (UT: The University of Texas at Austin, Visual Arts Professor) and Dan Johnson (AISD) presented theoretical information concerning material culture and practical information using primary sources.

February

Teaching History Backwards: Using Oral Histories to Make the Past Relevant. Karen Riles (Austin History Center) and Professor Terry Newton (St. Edwards University) presented African American and Latino oral histories in and around Austin.

Spring Traveling Exhibition through School Libraries

Sharon Ciccarelli (AISD), organized Voces Americas/American Voices: Celebrations of Latino Literature, to display temporarily in AISD libraries. The AISD physical plant moved the exhibit from school to school.

Summer Institute

Sharon Ciccarelli (AISD), Amie Finney (AISD), and Marjorie vanBeekum (Umlauf Sculpture Garden and Museum) organized, the 3-Day Summer Institute, Print Over Time Attendees visited UT’s Harry Hansom Humanities Research Center, Flatbed Press, UT’s Center for American History, GSD$& M, and Whole Foods and created a print at Austin High School.

Dino Pit Exhibit (Austin Nature and Science Center) Award

Donna Vliet, Director, reported The Dino Pit Exhibit was awarded 3rd place in the Wayside Exhibit Category of the 2004 National Association for Interpretation Media Competition. ACCESS to Learning, Inc. was a collaborator support of Dino Pit. An AISD student provided the artwork for the Dino Pit t-shirt.

Intern Project:

Christina Moody, a candidate in the Master’s Degree Program at UT Austin, College of Education, created Experience Integration of the Disciplines through the Umlauf Sculpture Garden & Museum. for the museum.
