December 2008
The Fall Program will continue last year’s theme, Renewable Energy Resources. Dr. Gary Vliet, whose research at the University of Texas at Austin was in the area of solar energy, will be presenting two class lessons in John Stormberg’s physics class on solar energy at the LBJ Liberal Arts and Science Academy. The Texas Solar Energy Society has provided 16 solar car kits for the students to make and race, at the second class.

January through April 2009
The Traveling School Exhibits Program will begin on January 8 at the Austin Independent School District’s Ann Richards Leadership Academy for Girls. McCallum High School teacher, Jim Furgeson, will present a workshop offering examples of the best use of the exhibits in grade-level courses. The exhibits this year are: The Blessings of Liberty: The U.S. Constitution and The Bill of Rights. Both exhibits are provided by Humanities Texas.

May 2009
Second Solar Energy Lessons taught in two Physics classes at San Juan Diego Catholic School and culminated with students racing their solar cars (built from Kits) on the school parking lot.


June 2009
Summer Institute, "Building Curriculum with Cultural and Educational Sites."

ACCESS to Learning, Inc. 2007-2008 Schedule


September 2007
The Steering Committee met at the Austin History Center to prepare the programming for the year beginning with the annual program meeting at the UT Texas Memorial Museum of Natural Science with the theme of Renewable Energy Resources.

October 2007
The Board met to discuss how to better support the work of the Steering Committee. It was decided that each director work a project of the Steering Committee. Also, a brief review of the bylaws was made and the Board recognized there was a need to update them.

November 2007
The Steering Committee met to discuss the traveling exhibits program, which will begin in January 2008. The workshop for this program will be held at the AISD Ann Richards Leadership Academy for Girls.

January 2008
The Steering Committee met to discuss the summer institute, to be held in June with the Texas Art Education Association.

February 2008
The Board met to discuss their work with steering committee members. A request for support is being prepared for future funding.
